Can you be a postpartum doula who only works during the day?
Can you be a postpartum doula who only works during the day?
Yes, it’s possible to build a postpartum doula business where you only offer daytime support to your clients.
I’ve been doing that for the past 12 years.
What do you need to earn?
First step is to figure out how much you need to earn each week/month to support yourself and your family.
Figure out the minimum amount you need to earn each week to make your postpartum doula business cover your personal and business expenses.
How many hours per week does that take?
Let’s say you work 4 days a week, for 4 hours a day and you charge $30 per hour.
That’s $480 per week. And $1,920 per month.
Say you earn $480/week for 50 weeks out of the year - that’s $24,000.
Does this add up?
Does $480/week (or whatever amount you come up with) cover what you need to pay yourself?
If not, you either need to raise your rates or work more hours in a week. Or both.
Is that possible for you?
CONSIDER THIS - Do you have the marketing and networking foundation in place to have that steady supply of 4 client shifts per week?
As a doula business coach, I meet so many doulas who go through months of training and education to become a doula, but they can’t start working with clients because the clients don’t know they exist…yet.
If you want to be successful as a doula and get out there and start supporting new families, it’s important to build a solid foundation of marketing for your postpartum doula business so that you have that steady stream of clients that will keep you busy.
If you’ve finished your postpartum doula training and are realizing that you need support with things like:
handling client interviews
what to actually DO in your clients’ homes on your first shifts
how to get more clients
how to set up the business side of things
